New album out now

Yep, its finally out and can be streamed from the audio page of this site or from my Bandcamp page here.

In other news I made several unsuccessful attempts to attempt some tape geocaching when I was recently visiting family and friends in Ireland during the past week. I was delighted to discover that one of my favourite childhood hangouts in Wexford sported a cache which I located easily though the box was too small for a tape.

Damn.

Spent a fun couple of days in Dublin afterwards - too much fun however as I neglected my caching and tried to shoehorn it all in to 3 hours on the morning before I left to go back to the South East. All unsuccessfull however as the same problems arose - boxes too small for the tapes.  Might have to find a cheap source of USB keys soon if this continues. However I did have some success on my return to Wexford and dropped a tape here on top of the beautiful Sliabh Coillte with the stellar Box Emissions Systems people.

Check out the photos of the beautiful TTSH Mini Meanie (ARP 2600 clone) that I've just taken delivery of from Barry at Box Emissions, I cannot recommend this guy's work highly enough.

So I've finished a new album entitled Diecast which will be out in October and am planning a combination of geocached tapes (see the above photo) and a digital release. I have a two week holiday from work coming up in a matter of days and will be heading to Ireland to see friends and family, dropping the first batch of tapes during that period. The tapes will be located in Wexford and Dublin and I'll post links as usual to their locations.

Will do a second run of cassettes in late October and deposit them in the UK. More updates soon.

So the piece which Gareth Stack did about me for his wonderful Mad Scientists of Music radio documentary has won a prize at the Dublin Sounds Alive Festival! Congrats man, well deserved! You can read more about the piece and listen to the audio here.

The summer has been quiet due to work commitments but I've just finished another Zpg album and will be starting tape drops and geocaching in the next couple of weeks, including some in Ireland in early October all going to plan. I aim to immerse myself in this project once again over the coming months and will be logging the progress here. I also take delivery of a new synthesiser in October which I am looking forward to immensely and plan a number of releases in due course. Watch this (consistantly unwatched) space...

Whirling Hall of Knives / Zpg - Each Lesson Paves the Way for its Successor (Cadavre Exquis)

14/4/2014

Myself and Whirling Hall of Knives embarked on a project some months ago which has just been released on the fantastic Nute Recordings.

Here is the blurb:

"A collaborative lp between WHOK/ZPG using the "Exquisite Corpse" method - In the order they are presented each track was made using only raw material from the last 30 seconds of the previous track. So WHOKs 'The Fire Of The Eye' was made using only the last 30secs of ZPG's 'Instantaneous Personal Magnetism', and so on...

A1 Instantaneous Personal Magnetism
A2 The Fire Of The Eye
A3 A Phosphorescence Of The Nervous System
A4 Power Strands Expressed In Every Lineament
B1 Kind Of Pulsation
B2 The Whole Body Is Fired
B3 Tensing Of The Latter Organ
B4 A Fitting Climax

A1,A3,B1,B3 - ZPG
A2,A4,B2,B4 - WHOK

NUTE017 // c40 // 100 copies"

You can listen to samples and purchase the full release on Boomkat

Last year I posted a bit about the group improv recordings we've been doing down here in Hove. This week we've just released the fruits of the first lot of sessions from those recordings under the name Arnod Vorrzpkngrr (a mashed amalgam of Autobee, K(no o), NGRRR, Vorrs & ZPG) and featuring a multitude of musicians who've drifted in for various sessions - DeadFader, Dr Brunstein, Drill Folly, Microbes, Nolan Dialta & Sinth.

Proto Something is available here on our spanking new Bandcamp site Voyder as well as streamable from ye olde Soundcloud here.

Geocacing Diary 16th December 2013

I was interviewed for a radio documentary currently in production by Dublin based writer and activist Gareth Stack on experimental music in Ireland. I spoke to Gareth when I was back in Dublin some months ago and he came over to Brighton before Christmas to continue the conversation as well as follow me on a geocaching expedition.

As time was limited and for handyness sake we headed out to Devils Dyke and deposited a tape here. The second attempt on a cache wasn't as successful but at least I was able to finally locate Jeepsweden UK2  and cross it off my list of prospective tape dropping spots.

The mist came on fast and thick (see above photo) soon after so we called it a day about 4.30pm and headed back to Hove, stopping only to grab an excellent field recording of a pylon hissing and spitting in the rain - will upload as soon as I get it from the man himself.
